Milk Alternatives For Fresh Milk Coffee Machines

With the launch of the latest fresh Milk tabletop coffee machine The So Pure Ivory , which offers a unique fresh milk tabletop barista experience using the latest milk foam temperature control technology, that truly creates those velvety smooth barista microfoam milk moments and all within a tabletop coffee machine, cup after cup. So Pure has been testing the world of fresh milk alternatives.

There’s many reasons to choose non-dairy milk and the supermarkets are full of options and types to choose from and it shouldn’t be pot luck when your choosing for a  So Pure coffee machine. But which milk alternative plant-based milk truly works best to create that barista microform?  Is it really possible plant-based milk to create a vegan latte? With over 16 milk microfoam settings possible, the So Pure Ivory fresh milk coffee machine allows you to heat your milk to the perfect temperature making the most of your milk from plant to dairy milk.

The choices are vast with non-dairy and plant-based milk alternatives from soy, almond, or oat milk?. Some non-dairy options have overpowering flavors and others can be difficult to foam to create that perfect barista microformSo below are our choices and discoveries of milk alternatives for the So Pure Ivory Fresh Milk Coffee Machine and your coffee moment.

One.
Oak Milk

Oat milk consists of steel-cut oats or whole groats which are soaked in water, blended, and strained through cheesecloth or a special nut milk bag, the leftover oat pulp has the bulk of the fiber and protein, when blended well enough, most passes through creating a  creamier texture than nut milk without added ingredients.

Two.
Soy Milk

Probably the world’s best-known milk alternative for generations and not for those avoiding dairy but also nut allergies (always check labels) and easy to a source within supermarkets. Created from dried soybeans soaked, and ground or pressed down with water to create Soy milk, but remember that it tends to curdle with acidic ingredients so craft your coffee bean choice well,  South American origins work well but African coffee bean might not the malty, light sweetness flavors of Soy milk.

Advice.

Letting the coffee cool a bit before adding soy milk and avoiding more acidic coffee beans helps.

Alpro Soy Milk

Three.
Almond Milk

Almond milk, a plant milk from almonds with a creamy texture and nutty flavor is a great alternative to dairy milk, loads of flavors sweetened and unsweetened varieties to choose from but beware almond milk can curdle in coffee for the same reasons as soy milk: temperature and acidity. So to stop curdling, avoid pouring cold almond milk into very hot coffee. and the So Pure Ivory fresh milk coffee machine can cater for this with its unique independent temperature controlled drink settings. Almond milk doesn’t contain cholesterolsaturated fat or lactose, so those who are lactose-intolerant and others, such as vegans who avoid dairy products its perfect.

Advice.

Letting the coffee cool a bit before adding Almond milk and avoiding more acidic coffee beans helps.

How Water Affects Coffee Taste & Quality

The art of brewing a great Coffee largely depends on the perfect balance of quality beans, expert baristas and that perfect grind. For years So Pure have been defining, perfecting and refining that balance from Swiss brewer technology with our Bean to Cup Coffee machines to the 100% Stainless steel Barista Coffee machines.

However, with all these elements in place, there is one factor that is often overlooked. Water!

With so many new clients visiting the So Pure showroom and investing or updating there Beverage and Coffee points with So Pure drinking solutions, from Office Coffee machines to national HORECA hotel chains Coffee solutions, we finding more and more the lack of guidance and advice clients where previous provide when it comes to direct water mains and “We thought it would be fine”

With Coffee machines using standard tap water offering ease and solutions, this can create a varied sensory experience from one day to the next. The reason for this is due to the hardness or softness of the water across the country. Water quality can also be affected by seasonal fluctuations and mineral deposits which change the flavour and intensity of the Coffee, Which is why for years we believed and offered the best in water filtration and technology and always use and suggest BRITA

As highlighted by BRITA, the hot beverages sector is rapidly changing. Interest in Coffee has increased significantly, and over half of consumers say the taste of Coffee would make them choose to visit one café over another. Consumers have not just taken an interest in Coffee over the past few years; they are also more educated on the quality and expectation of the perfect brew. With these consumer changes flowing down into workplace and office Coffee the effect for that perfect Coffee break matters.

So as the UK high-street has seen a 48% rise in the number of cafes, it’s ever-more important to stand out in this competitive Coffee market. With a simple change to the water used in your So Pure office bean to cup, instant Coffee machine to that barista Coffee machine, you will ensure delivery of a delicious cup of’ Joe every time and create an even more creamy smooth hot chocolate moment.

To understand the ways water can affect Coffee taste, take a look at some of the main factors below:

Tap Vs Filtered Water

It will come as no surprise that water from the tap tastes different from filtered water. As mentioned above, tap water has a number of minerals, which affect the flavour. Seasonal and regional factors are the main causes of the difference, and depending on the compounds found locally, you might experience different tastes from the same batch of beans. Alternatively, filtered water removes these impurities and offers a clean taste to every cup. Which is one reason we choose 100% stainless steel Barista Coffee machines the Evolution and Eva offer clean water diffusion and zero migration before a filtered system applied.

Understanding Hard And Soft Water Areas

Water makes up 98% of Coffee so it’s vital to determine how the hardness of the water in your area may affect your consumer’s experience. This UK Water Map by BRITA displays the type of minerals in different locations that will change the taste. Mineral compounds vary greatly across the country. For example, Edinburgh has minimal chalk content in the soil, so the water is very soft. Whereas Dover has a hard water rating due to the local underground chalk and gravel aquifers. So Pure understands when installing Coffee machines within UK and our on-site technical team are always keen on offering support making sure every drink created is amazing.

The carbonate hardness (dKH) scale is a way of measuring the levels of bicarbonates. The higher your dKH, the harder the water.
Soft water 1
Hard water 17

As the regional variance can have a significant impact on the quality of Coffee and hot beverages, testing the water is an essential step to optimising your products. The test is simple and not only enables your company to produce great tasting Coffee; it’ll also help prevent mineral build-up in your Coffee machine.

Ideal Coffee Brewing Temperature

The best way to prepare Coffee includes heating the water to the perfect temperature. If the water is not hot enough, it won’t extract the flavour fully. However, if it’s boiled too high, it’ll burn the Coffee producing a bitter, metallic taste. The optimum level sits around 91 to 96 degrees Celsius. By choosing a So Pure Coffee machine, the in-cup temperature is always achieved to ensure a delicious and smooth flavour.

Reducing Damage To Your Coffee Machine

Using tap water in a hard water area will start to cause a build-up of scale in your Coffee machine. This not only affects the taste of each cup, but it could also create costly maintenance, repair charges or potential downtime. While buying a cheaper Coffee machine might seem a cost-effective route, but the build-up of scale, limescale deposits and hard water are the doom of any low quality internal plastic parts or Thermoblocks with Coffee machines
Which is why So Pure only uses stainless steel inserts within our Thermoblocks, creating healthy, cleaner water and long-lasting components.

When it comes to water and water technology opting for filtered water protects the machine from limescale deposits and improves the aroma and taste of the Coffee.

Coffee Crema Perfection

So pure perfect coffee creme

So
What Is Crema?

Crema is a flavorful, aromatic, reddish-brown froth that rests on top of a shot of espresso. It is formed when air bubbles combine with fine-ground coffee’s soluble oils. Some people refer to this as the “Guinness effect” because it mimics the head on a pour of the popular Irish stout.

The strong presence of crema in an espresso shot indicates a quality, well-ground coffee and a skilled barista (professional coffee maker). Crema helps give espresso a fuller flavour and longer aftertaste than drip coffee.

What
Is The Perfect Crema?

Baristas and coffee makers around the world have different opinions about what they consider to be the perfect crema. The goal is to pull a shot of espresso with a crema that is not too thick, nor too thin, and one that lingers for about two minutes.

Troubleshooting crema can become complicated, but here are a few things to keep in mind.

  • Over-extraction, under-extraction and the coarseness of your grind will affect crema.
  • If your crema “drops” (goes away) after less than one minute, then the extraction was too fast or the coffee roast too light.
  • An extraction from a quality espresso machine should take between 15 and 30 seconds, though this may vary from one machine to another.
  • Remember to allow your machine to warm up before pulling a shot and clean the machine regularly to ensure it continues to work properly, also a dirty coffee machine will also contribute a bitterness to your espresso.

At So Pure whether you’re using one of our Tabletop beverage machines which uses the latest in Swiss brewing coffee technology or lover of the So Pure Barista coffee machines our coffee technicians will define and perfect that grind giving you the best extraction every time.

Factors
That Affect Crema

You may not be in complete control over your espresso’s crema. Beyond perfecting the technique of pulling a shot, crema can be affected by the following factors.

How
Freshly Roasted Are Your Beans?

Fresh roasted beans form more crema on espresso. This is because the coffee bean oils are still out-gassing from the roasting process. At So Pure our Essenza roasted bean, sun-dried and roasted three ways to perfection creating a sweet fruity flavour and roasted in our factory in traditional Probat drums allowing the full flavours to increase. Unique to So Pure, the Essenza roasted bean is a blend of Central America, Brazil and Robusta from Indonesia, crafted to create that crema and taste.

How
Dark Are Your Beans?

In general, the darker the bean, the less crema you will have. This is due to the oils rubbing off while handling, packaging and grinding. Then again, a very light roast is not known to produce an ideal crema, either. Many coffee companies offer an espresso roast, which should have the perfect amount of oils or a defining one type of roasted bean which is a blend of various offering you an ideal crema and textures combined.

How
Were The Beans Processed?

Naturally-processed beans will often produce the best crema because more of those oils are left intact. Which is why our  Essenza roasted bean are picked perfectly ripe and then laid to rest in the sun to dry creating a sweet fruity flavour.

How
Does Your Espresso Machines Pull A Shot?

Many espresso machines sold use automatic controls. While this is convenient, the process can limit the formation of crema compared to a manually pulled shot. Some automatic machines try to make up for this by creating an imitation crema but really 9 bar pressure is truly needed to create crema.

Is
Crema Really That Important?

While it can seem that a good crema is the definition of a perfect cup of espresso, it is not as critical as some make it out to be. It does add to an espresso’s flavour and is desired. Yet, its absolutely possible to have a great tasting cup of espresso without the perfect crema.

After all, espresso is about the taste, right? If you enjoy your cup, that’s really all that matters. Don’t get the crema blues or think that you somehow failed at your attempts to pull a good shot.

Remember, the roasted coffee beans and coffee machine play a big role, at So Pure we’re here to help you create that perfect cup of espresso from a Noir Espresso machine to Barista Capsula making that right choice every time.
